Meet Dr. Julie Baron

Leading the Way in Pelvic Venous Disorder Education: Where Personal Experience Meets Clinical Insight

Hi, I’m Julie. I’m a pelvic and ortho PT who stumbled into becoming a digital creator and online course builder extraordinaire after my own roller coaster experience with chronic pain.

I didn’t always see myself leading an army of pelvic health providers into the world of vascular disorders, but I’m here for it! I’ll spare you my entire autobiography and try to provide the short version.

Chronic pain due to autoimmune issues has played a huge role in my life. As a teenager, I was a competitive athlete and struggled with recurrent sprains, stress fractures, CRPS, and compartment syndrome in both legs, requiring multiple surgeries. These experiences solidified my desire to go into the field of physical therapy.

I genuinely love working with people who have been deemed “complicated” or “hopeless,” because I’ve been that person, too.

It was after the birth of my two children that I began to experience a different symptom: chronic pelvic pain. As a pelvic PT, I was used to treating others with pelvic pain. But nothing I tried helped and no healthcare provider could offer me an explanation.

I started to feel like a fraud. If I could help so many other people, why couldn’t I help myself?

I went from leading an incredibly active life to being unable to sit or stand for 10 minutes without severe pelvic pain, heaviness, and aching in my pelvic floor.

I saw multiple specialists across disciplines – pelvic floor physical therapy, urogynecology, GI, primary care, colorectal – only to be told that I was “fine” and this was “just motherhood for some people.”  I had gone from running around playing with my two kids at the park, to being cemented to my couch in agonizing pain in a period of less than 6 months. I couldn’t be the mom, spouse, or PT that I wanted to be because of my pain. If my youth taught me anything, it was that I knew my body better than anyone.

I needed to advocate for myself. So I went back to the basics. I immersed myself in the vast world of research involving vascular disorders of the pelvis, and learned all about this very common, yet misunderstood condition.

Did you know? Pelvic Venous Disorders are the second leading cause of chronic pelvic pain. And no one is talking about it!

I had PeVD but I couldn’t find a health care provider who would take me seriously; and if they did believe me, they didn’t know how to help me. Through sheer determination and not taking “no” for an answer, I arrived at my suspected diagnosis of PeVD and was able to get this confirmed by a vascular doctor. We selected the best treatment approach for me based on my diagnostic imaging and symptoms, and the rest is history. When I woke up from surgery, I already felt better. I immediately thought to myself, “I need to tell everyone about this.”

“Julie Baron is an extraordinary pelvic floor therapist. After a hysterectomy to repair a prolapse coupled with years of excessive, uncomfortable pelvic floor heaviness due to venous pain, my surgeon recommended that I see a pelvic floor therapist.

I found Julie’s approach to be different from previous pelvic floor therapists I had seen. The key focus was on proper breathing, paired with a series of movements that gradually realigned my pelvis to a neutral position. Julie helped me pick footwear that would support neutral pelvic alignment throughout the day. She provided education on how to recognize signs of stress with pelvic floor heaviness and how to utilize strategies for relieving it on my own.

Julie is very empowering. I am in my late 60’s. She reminds me of all the different ways I used to be able to move my body and is helping me to work towards doing those things again.

Julie has changed my life and my health in so many positive ways.

Judith W., Patient

In retrospect, the signs of my PeVD had been coming to a head for six years before they became unbearable. I want to expedite this process for patients and providers alike. The stakes are too high for you to miss this diagnosis with even one more patient.

If you are working with people who have chronic pelvic pain, you can’t afford not to know about PeVD.

I am the perfect liaison between healthcare providers and patients suffering from chronic pelvic pain of venous origin. I can personally connect with your clients who’ve been wondering, “what is wrong with me?!” for years.

It is so easy to rule this condition in or out. It’s painful to acknowledge how many people fall through the cracks every day because their provider doesn’t know any better.

But this is what we do as pelvic health providers —

  • we pick up the slack

  • we have the time, the expertise, and the passion to help people when other healthcare providers cannot

  • we validate and hold space for patients in pain, especially those who’ve been gaslit for years by our healthcare system

There are so many more people to help, more lives to impact, and more patients to empower. And I’m here to teach you how to do just that!

“Julie’s course will change your life! I just started out as a pelvic PT, after treating sports and ortho for over 10 years. I was nervous to dive in, but Julie’s course gave me the confidence to absolutely ROCK my THIRD internal exam EVER - and correctly identify PeVD in a patient who had been struggling with her symptoms for EIGHT YEARS! My patient was eternally grateful, and I felt like a badass.

It’s one thing to identify a new ACL tear. It’s another to validate a woman who’s been to 10 different specialists only to come up with zero answers, and to finally be able to give her hope. I feel so blessed that I came across Julie and her course.

I know this one patient’s life is changed forever. I can only imagine how many more lives I’ll be able to influence with this essential CEU course. We don’t learn about these things in school — not even a little bit! It’s on us to keep up with the literature, and Julie hands it to you on a beautiful silver platter.

Thank you Dr. Baron for such a comprehensive, course! I’ll be referencing your recommendations inside frequently!"

“Julie's course on pelvic venous disorders was excellent! PeVD was definitely never taught in physical therapy school or in past pelvic health continuing education courses to the same degree. It was great to learn the clinical presentations and symptom clusters to look for in my patients.

Recently I had a patient who reported scrotal and perineal heaviness with running, and had some mild varicosities present on exam. Within that first session, I referred him to our local pelvic vascular surgeon. It turns out the patient had bilateral varicocele and gonadal reflux. He is now pursuing fertility sparing treatment. I'm still seeing this patient for pressure management and lumbopelvic stability, but I also incorporate Julie's exercises that take into consideration his venous reflux and venous return.

Ultimately I appreciate that this course has made me a more discerning pelvic health clinician and hopefully quickens a patient's route to accurate medical diagnosis and treatment".
